Project Overview
HIVIS Group was engaged by Fulton Hogan to deliver a complete overhead signage package for the Rankin Park to Jesmond section of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass.
The project required a coordinated approach across manufacturing, civil works, reflective sign panel production, traffic management, lifting operations and night-shift installation. Working within a live traffic corridor, HIVIS managed key stages of delivery from fabrication and footing construction through to final installation and commissioning.
This project showcased HIVIS Group’s end-to-end capability in delivering complex road signage infrastructure safely, efficiently and in accordance with TfNSW requirements.

Scope of Works
HIVIS Group’s scope included the supply and installation of overhead signage infrastructure, supported by civil and manufacturing works delivered to project specifications.
The works included:
• Fabrication of gantries, posts and mounting hardware
• Construction of reinforced concrete footings
• Excavation, reinforcement and bolt cage installation
• Manufacture of Class 1100 reflective sign panels
• Traffic control coordination
• Night-shift installation works
• Crane truck, EWP and lifting operations
• Final inspections and commissioning
By managing multiple stages of the project through one coordinated delivery model, HIVIS maintained strong control over quality, sequencing and site readiness.

Manufacturing & Civil Works
A key part of the project was the manufacture of the overhead gantries, support posts and mounting hardware.
All steel structures were fabricated through HIVIS Group’s trusted steel structure partner, ensuring the required quality, compliance and structural integrity for long-term performance in a demanding road environment. The fabrication process was carefully coordinated with the civil works to support accurate fitment during the installation phase.
HIVIS also delivered the required civil works with its partners, including excavation, reinforcement placement, bolt cage installation and concrete pours. These works were completed in accordance with TfNSW standards and project requirements.
For overhead signage projects, footing accuracy is critical. The foundations and bolt cages must align precisely with the fabricated steel structures to ensure installation can be completed safely and efficiently during scheduled nightworks.
Through careful planning and coordination between manufacturing, civil and site teams, HIVIS reduced interface risk and helped ensure the project remained on schedule.

Reflective Sign Panel Production
The reflective sign panels were manufactured in HIVIS Group’s dedicated signage production facility using approved materials and compliant production methods.
Each panel was produced using CNC-cut substrates, compliant legends and Class 1100 reflective sheeting. This delivered high-visibility signage designed for long-term performance in both daytime and night-time driving conditions.
Class 1100 reflective signage is suitable for major road infrastructure where legibility, durability and driver awareness are critical. The panels were manufactured to meet the required specifications and provide a long service life, supported by a warranty of up to 15 years.
HIVIS Group’s in-house sign panel production capability allowed the team to maintain quality control throughout the process, from substrate preparation and reflective application through to final inspection.

Nightwork Installation
Installation was completed under night-shift conditions to minimise disruption to road users and support safe operations within a live traffic environment.
HIVIS crews used crane trucks, elevated work platforms and certified rigging personnel to lift gantries, mount reflective sign panels and complete final checks before commissioning.
The installation works included:
• Traffic control setup and site preparation
• Crane truck positioning and lifting operations
• Gantry placement and securing
• EWP access for elevated works
• Installation of reflective sign panels
• Final alignment checks
• Inspection and commissioning
Working at night in a live corridor required careful planning, clear communication and disciplined safety management. Despite the complexity of the environment, the installation was completed with zero incidents recorded.
